Island Montessori
Our connection
Island Primary began as a fledgling concept in 2018 to help a handful of families whose children attended Island Montessori’s preschool program. These families had no viable options for mandatory aged schooling due to a shortage of school spaces elsewhere, and to assist, Island Montessori expanded their license and offered an initial Reception class to 12 students.
From the commencement the Primary program was based on the British/Caymanian curriculum, with a very light Montessori influence. The curriculum was designed to focus heavily on outdoor learning and community relationships, and given the expansive gardens at the school campus, and the familial atmosphere, the program’s success scaled very quickly.
In 2020 it was apparent that the Primary program could not continue at the existing site due to space limitations. After an extensive search, land was secured along the Linford Pierson corridor, and Island Primary Ltd. was incorporated as a stand-alone entity, ready to be the first private British/Caymanian primary school of its size to open in Cayman since 1971.
